Detroit, Michigan. A night after the Miguel Cabrera show, in which Cabrera hit two long balls to save the Tigers after Valverde inexcusably tied the ball game, one would have thought with last year’s MVP on the mound, the Tiger’s bats would have supported Justin. But instead, the Yankees’ offense battered Verlander around for six and two thirds. The only Tiger offense came from Prince Fielder, when Fielder got a pitch to his liking, and hit a home run. Meanwhile, the White Sox, who lead the Central, won at Seattle. The Tigers continue to shoot themselves in the paws, and not take advantage when Verlander has the ball. That is the second time this year that Verlander has pitched his butt off and did not have the result he wanted. The Tigers find themselves six games behind Chicago in the Central.
