Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Justin Verlander threw a complete game yesterday in a 3-2 win against the Pirates. If anyone had a question about what Justin Verlander means to the Tigers and what he has eye on again this year, I give you an 8-4 record for Justin and it speaks for itself. I think Verlander is capable of winning the Cy Young Award and the MVP of the American League for the second year in a row. Several things must come together and I have little doubt that they won’t. With names like Prince Fielder, Miguel Cabrera, Delmon Young, and Brandon Bosch there is no reason why the Detroit Tigers shouldn’t be a threat to win a second Central Division crown. The Tigers next victim is a rematch of the American League Championship series from one year ago against the Texas Rangers in which they will go Texas two-stepping. The key for the Tigers in this series are the Tigers bullpens; Phil Coke, Duane Below, Jose Valverde, and Joaquin Benoit.
