Detroit, Michigan. Joe West and Ron Gardenhire have history with each other. On Sunday at Comerica Park, history was once again repeated when Gardenhire wanted to question what he thought was a double play. In my opinion, West had no business being a part of the discussion. Instead, he wanted to make himself a big part of the game, and make news so he did by ejecting Gardie for the 68th time in his career, which I didn’t agree with. If West had been behind home plate, that may have been a different story, but he wasn’t so there was clearly a case in point where he wanted to become bigger than the game itself. Enough about the umpiring. As for today’s game, Joba Chamberlain let the Twins back in to the game by being wild and by his inability to find the art of pitching, as my colleague with the Tigers Jim Price likes to so elegantly point out. I thought that Ausmus made a key mistake by moving the starter out and putting Joba in, but how was he to know that Joba was going to be wild? He didn’t know that at the time. Alex could have told his manager I think we need a new pitcher, because Joba obviously doesn’t have it. But Jeff Jones left him on the mound. You have to give the Twins credit, they took advantage of the Tigers bullpen wildness today, and their ineffectiveness, and they were ready to hit, resulting in a 4-3 come from behind win. The Twins now go home to play the defending World Series champs. Who knows what this big win will do for them? I still think a lot of their struggles have to do with the voice in the dugout, or maybe it’s the art of pitching. That’s why I asked Cory and Dan to come on my website and get their point of view on what may be going on with your favorite baseball team, Twins fans. Because it’s much better if you hear it from the two-time World Series champ and the voice of the Twins than just a talking head and someone who is just watching it on TV, or listening to Cory or Dan on the radio.
