Detroit, MI. Coming into the series against the Indians, the Tigers had the slimmest of leads, but were able to get some good solid pitching from their ace, Justin Verlander. The next two series with two of the lower teams in the American League should tell us the make up of the 2013 Tigers. There should be no reason why the Tigers can’t de-crown the Royals three times in a row. The Tigers are very dangerous team if you have Verlander going, and if you add in a little “Mad” Max. They need to use all of their weapons on their offense, plus Fielder and Cabrera, then you will have the makeup of a very deadly team. I was very impressed over the weekend with Victor Martinez. If you add in a little bit of Victor, that goes to show without saying that the Tigers can run away and hide with the Central Division. The only area that I’m worried about is the closer, because Jose Valverde has a tendency to come in with his head too big and think he that he is more holy than what a closer should be. He also likes to make the games very interesting, and if you are the real closer then you must quit doing that, because one of these times it will come back to bite you in your rear end! The Twins have a lot of good hitters, specifically numbers 16 and 7. If you leave a cookie out over the plate, they have a tendency to bomb with a home run threat, so you can’t leave cookies out over the plate or they will put balls in the seats. Willingham and Mauer get paid the big bucks to attack your weakest areas. It will be interesting to see who Leyland will put on the mound on Friday night. Whoever that pitcher is, they are going to have to keep the ball down, or else if Willingham and Mauer get a hold of Leyland’s starter early, then it could be a long night for the Tigers. If their offense can’t do what they did to Cleveland, then they might as well forget about game one against the Twins, because if Mauer and Willingham are on, then you can forget about game one. Also if the pitcher has no control over where he puts the ball, then you will set yourself up to using the bullpen. Hopefully the Tigers can remember how to play with the level of intensity that it took to sweep Cleveland.
