Turner Turned Away White Sox

Detroit, Michegan – The Tigers became the first team to sweep the Chicago White Sox in a series this year. It all began on Friday night when Justin Verlander picked up win number 12 of the season and propelled the Tigers past the White Sox 4-2. On Saturday the art of pitching struck again, this time from Rick Porcello when he went 8 innings and shut down the White Sox again with the final score of 7-1. On Sunday, the Tigers used the longball to defeat the White Sox again 6-4. Jacob Turner had a solid start completing a 6-1 homestand. Turner joined the Tigers from the Toledo Mud Hens. Also of note, the big man Miguel Cabrera clubbed his 300th home run of his major league career on Sunday afternoon. That was not the only notable event from the team. My sincere congratulations to Phil and Bobbie Coke on their newest addition to the Tigers family, a baby girl named Mickenzie Lou Ann.

Tigers Gain Ground

Detroit, Michigan – Just when you thought it was safe to go into Comerica Park the roar is getting louder. The Tigers showed the rest of the country, in a nationally televised game, their brand of baseball. On the mound last night it was #48 Rick Porcello. He had the art of pitching working for him through the first four innings before the Angels touch Porcello with a 5 run lead. The Tigers offense ,however, rallied from behind to put a halo on the Angels 8-6. Meanwhile, in Boston, Massachusetts the Tigers closest competitor, the White Sox, were getting hammered 5-1 by the Red Sox, cutting the White Sox’s lead down to two and a half games in the American League Central Division. The Chicago White Sox are number one in their division.

Verlander Improves to 10-5, Tigers Improve to 2-1 in Second Half

Baltimore, Maryland. Just when you thought the roar was silent, not so fast, my friend. With a guy named Justin and an offense that has more bite to its roar, as the Orioles found out on Sunday, the rest of the Central Division might as well fear the Tigers again. With Verlander doing his usual Justin impersonation, there is no way that Verlander should be discredited. Sure, I know he cost the AL home field advantage in the World Series when he gave up five runs in the first inning on Tuesday July 11 at Kansas City’s Kaufmann Stadium in the All Star Game, but that should not matter in the Cy Young voting. If he was 5-10, and on a team that is going nowhere, then I would say definitely the All Star game was a big blow to his Cy Young hopes. But Justin is 10-5, and the Tigers are only three and a half games behind the White Sox. Sunday was a clear indication of why the Tigers are not pussy cats. I don’t care what the rest of my fellow colleagues say, this Tigers team still has life left in it, and with a manager named Jim, anything is possible.

Tigers Reel In Rays

Tampa, Florida. With the Tigers being ridiculed by some media outlets, both nationally and on jeremiahboyce.com, Detroit said “wait, we still have a shot at making a run at our second Central crown”. It all comes down to the Tigers’ anemic, sometimes lifeless offense and the art of pitching. Tampa Bay swam to a 3-3 tie in their half of the fifth, but in the sixth, enter in A-Jack, who showed good patience at the plate, and gave the Tigers a 4-3 lead. And then later on, the Tigers would add the final run to put them one game within .500. Next series is a crucial make or break series for the Tigers. It’s in Comerica against one of the lowliest and most hapless teams in baseball, Ronald Gardenhire’s Minnesota Minor Leaguers. Sure, the Twins have Joseph and the amazing technicolor all star, but outside of that, who are they? The Minnesota nobodies. Meanwhile, Leland and Lamont have one of the most fearless group of hitters in baseball: Fielder, Young, and Cabrera. Not to mention anytime Leland gets thirsty, he has a tough son of a gun in the bullpen, number 40, Phil Coca Cola. There should be no reason why these dormant Tigers shouldn’t bite the heart out of Gardenhire and the Twins. If they get swept at home, they might as well look at retooling and forget about another Central Division crown.

Everything Is Bigger In Detroit

Arlington, Texas – A day after Justin Verlander’s outstanding performance against the Pirates, Rick Porcello had a super performance in the scorching heat in Texas. It was 100 degrees at game time and it was the Rangers who couldn’t take the heat. Porcello and the Tigers had a 5-0 lead before Rick even set foot on the mound. A big reason why the Tigers were successful on Monday night was that they were patient at the plate and it added to their lead, with the final score being 8-2. Mr Price always talks about the art of pitching and Rick Porcello was an artist last night. Miguel Cabrera led the Tigers by showing his teammates how to be patient. Tonight, the Tigers hope to have a lot to smile about when Drew Smyly takes the mound. For updates on Game 2, stay tuned.
