Cabrera Scalps Indians

Detroit, Michigan. With the Tigers looking at the playoffs and a run at the World Series, it was time to get in high gear and make a serious run at the White Sox. Phil Coke was ineffective on Sunday afternoon, but it was all about Miguel and Omar. Omar Infante tied the game at 8, and Miguel Cabrera gave the Tigers the improbable sweep after the Indians had taken an 8-5 lead in the top of the 10th with a walk-off bite that sent the jungle into delerious excitement. The normally reliable Tigers bullpen forgot how to pitch. The Tigers repeatedly answered the Indians on Sunday afternoon and the one thing that we learned about the Bengals is that they are just like a certain writer because the Tigers have the desire to inspire when part of their game is missing. Even though the art of pitching has escaped the Tigers bullpen, we know that these Bengals are ferocious when challenged. As far as the Central Division goes, it’s going to come down to heart and will, which I know the Detroit Tigers have without question. It doesnt matter what the score is, or how many runs the Tigers need, Miguel Cabrera is like a well-oiled engine, he always works. With a general manager who is willing to bite everybody else’s head off in the division and throughout baseball, until he gets what he so richly deserves, a World Series title. Dave Dombrowski is showing me that he is determined to put the Tigers and the city of Detroit on top of major league baseball.

Turner Turned Away White Sox

Detroit, Michegan – The Tigers became the first team to sweep the Chicago White Sox in a series this year. It all began on Friday night when Justin Verlander picked up win number 12 of the season and propelled the Tigers past the White Sox 4-2. On Saturday the art of pitching struck again, this time from Rick Porcello when he went 8 innings and shut down the White Sox again with the final score of 7-1. On Sunday, the Tigers used the longball to defeat the White Sox again 6-4. Jacob Turner had a solid start completing a 6-1 homestand. Turner joined the Tigers from the Toledo Mud Hens. Also of note, the big man Miguel Cabrera clubbed his 300th home run of his major league career on Sunday afternoon. That was not the only notable event from the team. My sincere congratulations to Phil and Bobbie Coke on their newest addition to the Tigers family, a baby girl named Mickenzie Lou Ann.

Tigers Can’t Get Back-to-Back Wins

Cleveland, Ohio – After taking two out of three from the Pittsburgh Pirates and getting their twentieth win on Sunday afternoon (4-3) the Tigers went to face the Indians on Monday night. Alex Avila was the only Tiger that was hungry on Monday night. After the Indians took a 1-0 lead, Alex quickly erased the Indian lead and gave the Tigers a 3-1 lead. But, in the end the Tigers succumbed to the Indians with the final score being 5-3. The Tigers don’t resemble the team that was playing a year ago and winning division championships, because they have no good pitchers outside of Justin Verlander. They now find themselves four behind the Indians. They cannot rely on Justin Verlander every fifth day. Last night’s starting pitcher Rick Porcello now has a record of three wins and four losses. The Tigers look to even the series at 1-1 in Cleveland. Thursday afternoon the Tigers will send out their last year Cy Young award winner Justin Verlander to pitch against the Indians.

Young Pacers Unable to Stop Lebron James and Dwyane Wade

Indianpolis, Indiana – With the Pacers up two games to one heading into Sunday’s afternoon game four, one would have hoped that they could duplicate the effort that they had in Miami. Watching Lebron tear apart the Pacers on Sunday afternoon was not fun, but you have to give credit where credit is due. As far as game five goes, I expect the Pacers to come out mad and tighten up some areas where the Heat were able to tear them apart. This has the making of a seven game war. I think youth will win out in the end, just because we are tied at two means nothing. As far as Miami having the home court advantage back, I don’t think that will make any difference in the outcome. We have proven that we can win in South Florida before, so why not again. Even if we don’t get game five, game six is in Indiana and that will give us an advantage.
