Miles City, Montana. For the 18th time, North Dakota and Montana did battle on the football field in the annual Badlands Bowl on Saturday, June 18. It was North Dakota getting on the board first, leading 7-0 with Carson Wentz, a Bismarck Century product, connecting with a member of the state champion Fargo South Bruins. Wentz was clearly the star of the night for North Dakota, who lost the annual border battle 34-13. This was North Dakota and Montana’s Super Bowl, with the NFL clearly being bobbleheads and in a verbal spat between its owners and its players. The Badlands Bowl was a case of something we will not have this fall, unless the NFL players and owners come to an agreement. The Badlands Bowl has not been held in North Dakota for two years because Whitney Stadium, where Dickinson State plays football, has been torn down. The future of the game in North Dakota is unknown. We have yet to find out if it will be held in Dickinson again. One thing that the committee should look at is holding the game at Coca-Cola Stadium at the Community Bowl on the campus of BSC. I know it wouldn’t make sense as a border battle, but to me, it’s better than giving Montana the home field advantage.
