Detroit, Michigan. The Detroit Tigers sent a clear message when they got Cecil Fielder’s son Prince Fielder to wear the old English D. We are here to take names and unless you want to be mauled by a Tiger, you better play your A game, which the Boston Red Sox did not do over the weekend. Therefore, it was no tea party in Tigertown for Bobby Valentine’s Red Sox. Instead, the Detroit Tigers mauled the Red Sox three straight times. In doing so, they sent a loud roaring message to the rest of baseball. If you want to go to the World Series in the American League, you have to go through Detroit. It was a really really super weekend, that had everything going right for the Motor City kitties, including great pitching, timely hitting, and an explosive offense including five home runs on Saturday in a 10-0 drubbing of Boston. Sunday’s game was filled with drama until number 13 Alex Avila won the game with a tremendous three-run shot into the Detroit evening in the bottom of the 11th, giving the Tigers an unforgettable 13-12 win and a 3-0 start. The Tigers now look to reel in the Rays, starting on Tuesday in a three game showdown.
