Boston, MA. On Tuesday night, the Tigers were playing for the best record in the American League. Not only do they not have the best record in the league, but to make matters worse, one of the best pitchers in baseball now has a defeat on his otherwise outstanding record. Leave it to Will Middlebrooks to ruin the St. Louis Missouri native’s night. After the Tigers had given him a one to nothing lead, I don’t think that it was Max’s fault that he gave up two runs that caused him to be 19-2. The Tigers should have not been so greedy in trying to score a second run. If the Tigers wouldn’t have been so greedy, then maybe this would have been a different story that I would be writing. Sometimes pitchers will have nights like this. Look at Justin Verlander and the year he won the Cy Young award. Even he couldn’t avoid five losses. Max is still a great pitcher. Sometimes I wonder what it would have been like if the Tigers had scored the 2nd run. Middlebrooks may have not given the Red Sox the lead, but it is what it is. If the Tigers would have held the runner at 3rd instead of sending him home, then Will would have tied the game. Instead of only tying the game Middlebrooks got the game winning hit, and Max got his second loss. We will have to see if the Tigers can take 2 of 3 from Boston tonight.
