Alex Avila is having a rough year, but sometimes the Detroit Tigers can count on some unlikely heroes. It started early in the game when Avila drove in Detroit’s first run of the game with a sacrifice fly making the score 1-0 Detroit. Later in the game, he would strike again, this time delivering a fatal blow. With two out in the bottom of the ninth he hit a single over Ichiro Suzuki’s head with the game tied to bring home the winning run, making the score 3-2 and winning the series for the Tigers.

But Avila wasn’t the only story of the game. Kyle Lobstein, who was called up from the Tigers’ minor league affiliate Toledo Mud Hens to pitch Thursday’s game, gave Detroit a much-needed six-inning performance after last night’s starter was beaten and battered around in an 8-2 drubbing.
