Saturday was not a good day to be out in the rain, because it came with lightning and it pushed the game back. By the time the ball was in the air, it was well past 2:30 pm. The lightning was irritating to this reporter, because it looked like all I was going to be writing about was mother nature. Once the game got going, U-Mary hung in toe-to-toe with the number two team in the nation. U-Mary tied the game twice, but in the end the defense was suspect and basically the Marauders gave the game to the Mavericks. Craig Bagnell played his heart out, and tried to single handedly say “get on my shoulders” but in the end Myron gets a loss to open his final season. You can not be one dimensional against any team in the NSIC, because your opponents will find out where your weakness is, and attack it. The Marauders had better improve quickly, or Myron will be remembered as the coach that went “O” for football. This is obviously just my opinion, but what I saw on Saturday can’t happen on every Saturday from here on out. They go to Nebraska on Saturday and play Wayne State. There were several bright spots in Saturday’s game. I was very impressed early in the game at how the Marauders were able to keep the Mavericks close, but in the end close doesn’t count! Their defense needs to grow up quickly, or else Myron is going to turn red a lot this season. I will try and to get an interview with coach Myron before they leave to tackle the Bulldogs. Myron doesn’t wear the uniform, but the players do! My player of game from this past Saturday is Craig Bagnell, because I thought he was shining brightly in a very disappointing home game opener. You have to give the signal caller credit, because without Bagnell we might have seen total domination. I think that Bagnell did everything he could. I also think that number 14 Tyler Ryan did his best. It is hard to keep kicking the ball off when your defense can’t stop your opponents. That is why Mankato is number two. Maybe getting away from the Community Bowl will be a breath of fresh air. I was really disappointed with what I saw on Saturday, but Saturday is now over, so all the Marauders can do is go to Nebraska and give coach Myron a better effort.
