Detroit, Michigan. After giving Detroit sport fans another summer of celebration, Jim Leyland said good-bye to the city of Detroit in a press conference I listened to today on the Tigers flagship station 97.1. Unlike last year, this year the Tigers saw red, so now not only do Dave Dombrowski and Michael Illich have to deal with all of their free agents, they now have to find a new king of the jungle. According to the former manager, Jim Leyland, it was time for someone else to be the Tigers manager. According to Dave Dombrowski, “we will all miss Jim Leyland, but Jim Leyland will be a part of the Tigers just not as the manager.” Dave and Jim met after the Royals series earlier in the year and Jim told Mr. Dombrowski that this year would be it. The one thing I kept hearing from this morning’s press conference on the Tigers flagship station in Detroit was that it’s time. “It’s time for me to step down” Leyland said. I had the chance of a lifetime to meet the Tigers manager before I went to work in the press box this past summer at Target Field. Mr. Leyland, thanks for the memories! I think you are a first class person. Even though you were unable to deliver a championship to your city, you will forever be remembered as a champion in my book. I think that because of what you did for me. You came right up to me and started to talk baseball with me. How many media outlets would you do that for? Except for Dan Dickerson, because you talk to the voice of the Tigers every day on your own show, but it was pretty cool to meet face to face. I certainly enjoyed that, and I will certainly miss seeing your face when the Tigers and the Twins play. I think you did a lot of stuff that you didn’t have to do for me. I guess that comes with the territory when you ask nicely. Brian Britten and the Detroit Tigers do not have to treat this website with royalty. I will miss you Jim, even though most of my colleagues call you mumbles. No mumbling in front of this website, just a nice kitty! Jim, I can’t tell you enough – thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for stepping out of your jungle to talk to Jeremiahboyce.com. I can’t put it in words how nice you and your organization have been to me and my family. Thank you. Now the Tigers organization is to be looked at with class. The stuff I do for you, Detroit, is not without hard work, and it couldn’t be done without a first class organization like the Tigers. The D on their uniforms could be changed to a C and let me tell you why, Tiger fans. I think that they are a first class organization all the way around, and I don’t think there is a classier organization than the Detroit Tigers. I can tell you that I am very proud to be covering moments like this for you, Tiger Fans. You shouldn’t be ashamed of what the D stands for, but there might as well be another letter on your uniform, a C.
