No one in their wildest dreams would expect to get a call that would sadden their hearts like the one I got today from my friend Dan Williamson. What Dan told me was that Chad Johnson, 43, was struck and killed by a train. Johnson was the head coach when the Bobcats won the Bourne Cup in 2003. He made sure that the Sheriff got his hands on the Borne Cup by passing it up through the stands to me. When Andy was Captain, he would do something a season later that would shock me even more. The team had just finished a season where they were number two in the country, and instead of keeping his silver medal he won, he said, “here, keep this Jeremiah, this is for you!” Rest in peace, Chad. You left way too early, buddy. The hockey world will never be the same. My heart will never be the same, and I would like to know why you were on the train tracks? This is one of those losses that is going to take quite a while to get over. Tomorrow is another day with the Bobcats, but a piece of me will be missing. Now Garrett and Layne will have to console me, because “CJ” was my friend. He also gave me several jerseys, and one of them has the number 9 on it and even says Boyce on the back of it. Another has all of the players signatures from that year on it. That shows you how classy the guy was to me.
