Detroit, Michigan. With a sweep staring them right in the face, the Tigers were down 6-3 heading into their final at bat. But then up stepped Torii Hunter who is a native of Pine Bluff, AR. Before Hunter stepped into the batter’s box, the Tigers were only able to cut off one run from the A’s lead. Manager Bob Melvin decided to leave the native of Sidney Australia, Grant Balfour in the game while he was being wild. Stephen Vogt only went up to the mound once during the period that Balfour was wild. You would think that Manager Melvin would have gone out to the mound to have a meeting before Torii Hunter stepped up, but he chose to stay in the A’s dugout. The native of Pine Bluff AR, used to be part of the Angels and the Minnesota Twins, and Torii showed all of us why the Tigers got him. It takes special players to take charge, and show the willingness to look a possibility of a sweep in the face. Torii Hunter is a special player who the Tigers should offer a long term deal to. What Torii did today I think was totally awesome! He took a Tigers team that was lifeless most of Thursday afternoon and lifted them onto his shoulders. This was a big win, and with the Indians coming to town, I felt the Tigers looked lifeless for most of the series. The Indians’ hearts have to be sinking, because it looked like the lead was only going to be five, but now it is a six game lead going into the biggest series of the year. It also gives the Tigers the possibility of getting a long winning streak before the post season. Unfortunately, mad Max did not get his 20th win of the year. You will have nights where even the best will struggle. Max still has an amazing record of 19-1. Life is good, thanks to Torii Hunter! “Miggy” still continues to deal with his hip injury, but it’s not the end of the world, Tigers fans. The story of the day was Torii Hunter denying the A’s their sweep. It seems that everything is back in order in the Tigers jungle! What can you say about Torii? He has the heart of a champion.
