Most of you remember #33 as his player number, but now Patrick Roy hopes to give the Avalanche a winning tradition behind the bench. Last night was Roy’s first shot at being a head coach. This is a guy who knows a thing or two about making big saves in key moments. Will he even be able to keep calm behind the Avalanche bench when the team has a bad night? 6-1 speaks volumes about the coach that the Avalanche have. The question still remains as to why they hired a former goalie to be head coach. Roy would always come up with save after save. How is he going to react when the Avalanche don’t keep the other teams off the board? This is only Patrick Roy’s first experience with the pressure from the other side. He had pressure as a player because he was a good goalie. How good will he be if Semyon Varlamov starts letting pucks in? Will we see the fiery side of Roy? If I know Roy, he probably will blow his top if Varlamov lets a goal in. I wonder how long it will take for him to want to put the uniform back on and tell Joe Sakic I want to be a player again? We don’t know if he could even hold up to what it takes to be a goalie again, because once you lose it, it takes a while to get it back. Last night was fun to listen to Marc Moser. May I make a suggestion? For the many of you who do not have XM Radio, you do not know what you are missing. Marc Moser reminds me of a young Brian Lavelle, because of the way he gets excited when the Avalanche score. He sounds like he is coming through your radio. Can you imagine me in Denver being around Marc Moser? I wouldn’t be surprised if the guy drinks Jolt Cola. That’s what Lavelle used to do with the Billings Bulls. He used to be sitting next to yours truly at the VFW Sports Center. Every time the Bulls would score, he would get excited and say, “He shoots, he scores,” or say, “score, score, score,” until yours truly would want to reach over and knock him off the air!
