Edwards Shines in All Star Event

By Jeremiah Boyce · Comments (0)
Sunday, May 22nd, 2011

Charlotte, North Carolina. On Saturday night, it was time to add a new name to NASCAR’s biggest and brightest all stars, the number 99 Aflac Ford Fusion piloted by Columbia Missouri’s Carl Edwards. Edwards, who is known for his famous back flip, is now a million dollars richer on this Sunday. This can be considered Speed Week at Charlotte. After the All Star race, the drivers are put through one of NASCAR’s ultimate tests of endurance and patience and skills. This marks the beginning of summer with the annual Coca Cola 600. Karl Edwards is not only a million dollars richer, but he is also your Nextel Cup points leader. Might we have seen a preview of the Coca Cola 600? Only 600 miles knows the answer to that. This is one of my favorite weekends of the year. JeremiahBoyce.com will be in Indy providing you green flag coverage of the centennial Indy 500, and then from Indy I will fly down to Charlotte and give you flag to flag coverage of NASCAR’s endurance test. How does a person fly down in two places? The power of XM Radio!

No Kingdom for Animal Kingdom

Baltimore, Maryland. Animal Kingdom was gunning to become the first horse in 33 years to win the Triple Crown on Saturday. After a brilliant trot at Churchill Downs, the young colt would come up seven lengths short of a win in the Preakness, denying horse racing fans a chance to see history. Now extends a long drought without a horse claiming the ultimate prize in horse racing.

Hulberg Back in North Dakota

Minot, North Dakota. After taking a position with the Columbus Blue Jackets’ minor league team as their announcer, Minot native Nick Hulberg was lured back to his home town to help the fledgling Minot Minotauros with the marketing aspect of the game. Nick is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. Down to earth and honest. I think the Minotauros made the right decision. Hulberg knows the game of hockey. His brother Mat is a former President of the North American Hockey League’s Bismarck Bobcats. On behalf of JeremiahBoyce.com, I would like to extend my warmest congratulations and my sincere wishes for good luck to a true friend and great person on his new position with the Minotauros.

Hoosier Centennial

By Jeremiah Boyce · Comments (0)

Speedway, Indiana. Every May is special, but this May is extra special because it marks the centennial of one of the great American traditions, the Indianapolis 500. Who will have their name etched in Hoosier history? Will it be Helio Castroneves, or will it be the centennial pole-sitter Alex Tagliani that will their name forever etched in history as the winner of the 100th Indy 500? Sixteenth and Georgetown has special meaning for many Hoosiers, including the writer of this piece. On Sunday, August 5, 2001, I got my first taste of racing at the Speedway, being from a small town an hour north of Indianapolis. That race was stock car drivers descending on the yard of bricks for the Brickyard 400. Who would have ever dreamed that I would become a member of the large press corps that focuses in on the state of Indiana and the circle city every May?

7th Heaven

San Jose, California- The Detroit Red Wings and the San Jose Sharks are headed to one of the best moments in all of sports, Game 7. With every save meaning so much, this game seven comes down to two goalies. In net for San Jose you have a guy that has championship experience. He won the Cup last year with the Chicago Blackhawks. Meanwhile for Detroit, you have a back-up goalie who has never experienced a game seven in the NHL before. Antti Niemi was in net last year for the Chicago Blackhawks when they won their Stanley Cup. Jimme Howard replaced the veteran Chris Osgood for the Red Wings. Will the shark tank be a house of horrors for Jimme Howard? Don’t forget that the San Jose Sharks at one time held a 3-0 lead in the series. The Red Wings have battled back to force one of the pinnacles in sports.
