Zen Master Wins Eleventh Title

By Jeremiah Boyce · Comments (0)

Phil Jackson doesn’t need a Michael Jordan to wear an NBA crown of rings when he has Kobe Bryant, Ron Artest, or Derek Fischer who helped him earn an eleventh NBA ring. Jackson might as well get a new area dedicated to “his majesty” at the North Dakota Rough Rider Hall of Fame, where he is honored as a famous North Dakotan. There’s April, May, and then there’s Jackson month during the NBA season. We’ve seen it play out time and time again, but could this have been Phil’s swan song? Only time will tell.

Minneapolis. On Monday night June 28, the Tigers had to send one of their closers to the vet. Joel Zumaya, a fiery competitor, saw his season and dream of winning a title go down the drain. The Tigers took game 1 7-5, but after celebrating the win, the Tigers got the worst news that any baseball team would want to hear. And that is that their star closer is out for the rest of the season after a pitching injury. So who will replace Joel Zumaya as the Tigers battle with the Twins? This game is a very important game for the Tigers in their mental attitude if the Tigers can somehow show the heart of a champion. The Tigers must find a way to rally around their fallen teammate.

Allie Collins a former all-state basketball player for Greg Amundson’s Mandan Braves will return to wear blue and orange for the University of Mary Marauders. Collins was once recruited by U-Mary but gave the Marauders the cold shoulder. I guess when you miss home you try to go back. For the Marauders that proved to be a good thing. This time the Marauders did a slam-dunk on the former Brave to be sure she would be wearing the Marauder uniform for the 2010-11 season.

Twins Hear Tigers Roar

By Jeremiah Boyce · Comments (0)
Saturday, June 19th, 2010

Minneapolis. After being in the driver’s seat for most of the first half of the season, the Twins can hear the roar of the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers have really poured on the steam. Meanwhile, the Twins have had several lackluster performances. It is a 162 game season. No team is going to win all 162 games. Another reason why the Tigers have been hot is starting pitching. The Twins pitchers have cooled off. You need good pitching and good hitting and it also takes a good skipper at the helm. Players should hold themselves accountable and come to the park and be ready to play every day, which is something that has been missing from the Twins repertoire. Credit should be given to Jim Leyland for the way he has his Tigers playing.
