‘Cats Begin Run at National Title

By Jeremiah Boyce · Comments (0)
Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Mason City, Iowa – Coming off of a hard fought series against the Central Division’s Owatonna Express, the Bismarck Bobcats will shift their focus to Mahoning Valley.  These Bobcats are battle tested with veteran goalies in between the pipes for Coach of the Year Byron Pool.  As for today’s opponent, Mahoning Valley, whom the Bobcats lost to early in the season 5-1, but this is a new season.  There should be no excuse why Bismarck couldn’t cap off the turnaround from worst to first with a national title.  Every game that the Bobcats play, we will have your exclusive coverage right here.

Toews First UND Player to Advance

By Jeremiah Boyce · Comments (0)
Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

For a young man, who came to the Sioux out of Winnepeg, MB, CAN, he is living a dream.  Not only is he wearing the “C,” but he is also only twenty years old.  Jonathan Toews played a brilliant series, putting one of the greatest players, Jerome Iginla, and the Calgary Flames’ flame out.  For Toews, and the rest of his teammates, it is on to round two, where they will face another tough Canadian team, the Vancouver Canucks.  Let’s give credit, where credit is due, to the coaching staff of the Chicago Blackhawks.  Despite the Flames pressure on Blackhawk goalie Nikolai Khabibulin and being out-shot, 44-16, the ‘Hawks had a rock in goal.

How nice would it be to see a North Dakota reunion in the Cup Finals?  First, Toews, Zach Parise (NJ Devils), and Travis Zajak (NJ Devils) must make it out of their respective conferences.  The New Jersey series is tied at 3 with the Hurricanes.  I wouldn’t mind seeing Toews and the rest of the ‘Hawks play Chris Chelios and the defending Stanley Cup Champion Red Wings in the West Finals.  As far as the Devils, I think they might match-up with “Sid the Kid,” just so long as one of the teams with a North Dakota player is celebrating in June.  I think it would be interesting for you, the readers of my site, to have something to talk about with your Sheriff.

Sharks Sink

By Jeremiah Boyce · Comments (0)
Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Going into the series against Anaheim, just south of San Francisco in the Silicon Valley, there were dreams of hoisting Lord Stanley, but in Southern California, the land of Minnie and Mickey, there was an upstart Ducks team. One key in the NHL playoffs that the Sharks were missing all series long was good goaltending. Evgeni “Siv”-kov (Nabokov), instead of rising to the occasion, sunk to the bottom of the ocean. Was this a team that was overconfident going into the Stanley Cup playoffs? The Sheriff says “Yes, they were.” Just because you win the President’s Trophy at the end of the season doesn’t mean a darn thing. What matters is the prize at the end of the playoffs. For these underachieving Sharks, they now go to the bottom of the ocean to look at themselves all summer long and think about what might have been a glorious season that’s now in shambles. The city of San Jose should get rid of Jonathan Cheechoo, Claude Lemieux, and Jeremy Roenick. Perhaps these Sharks should go into retirement. The San Jose Sharks need to get younger, and find the real meaning of what it’s like to be a team. Too many big egos. For the land of Disney, they can say “we are going to Detroit!”

Carnage at ‘Dega

By Jeremiah Boyce · Comments (0)
Monday, April 27th, 2009

On Sunday afternoon, drivers were not being smart and as a result there were eight fans, enjoying their Sunday at the racetrack, in hospitals throughout Alabama. This isn’t the only time NASCAR has had major carnage. In the end, it was Brad Keselowski smiling in victory lane. NASCAR has got to clean up its image at Talladega, or protect its fans by putting some kind of reinforcement along the outside fence (where Carl Edwards went airborne.) Yes, I know it’s ‘Dega, but still, this is not a demolition derby. The last time I checked, it was NASCAR. Drivers and their crews had torn up race cars because some drivers raced for the win too early. I respect the drivers, but if they would just back-off their level of intensity a little bit, situations like this could be avoided.

Now, let’s talk about Mr. H’s drivers. It was nice to hear that the #88 finally got his head in the game and came up with a 2nd place finish. Maybe they should call it Junior-Dega. As for Jeff and Jimmie, I guess that’s people being boneheaded at ‘Dega.

Here are the point leaders after the wreck-filled Talladega:

1. Kurt Busch 1299
2. Jeff Gordon 1294
3. Jimmie Johnson 1235
4. Tony Stewart 1232
5. Denny Hamlin 1190
6. Kyle Busch 1124
7. Carl Edwards 1119
8. Clint Bowyer 1098
9. Jeff Burton 1092
10. Greg Biffle 1081

Edwards Thankful to be Alive

The driver known for doing backflips after he wins, was lucky to make it out of his #99 Office Depot Ford alive, on Sunday afternoon. “Hopefully they can do something somehow to change this style of racing,” Edwards said. “I guess we’ll do this until somebody gets killed and then we’ll change it, but that’s the way it is.” Our thoughts and prayers go out to the NASCAR fans who were injured in Sunday’s wreck. We hope for a speedy recovery for those involved.

Bobcats Derail Express

By Jeremiah Boyce · Comments (0)
Monday, April 27th, 2009

On Sunday night the Bismarck Bobcats had their backs against the wall, which meant one more loss and their dream season would come crashing down in pieces. The Bismarck Bobcats showed resiliency and heart by having the early jump. Before the Express knew what hit them, they were down 3-nothing. As has been the case all series long, the Owatonna Express would show that they have some snipers, hitting the Bobcats with three quick goals of their own. This was game five, neither team was going to give an inch. We were going to the final 20 minutes of the series tied, but then the Bobcats would explode. Here is your scoring recap from Sunday night’s game, game number five:

First to get on the board was Bismarck’s Casey Kleisinger at 7:54 of the first.

But the Bobcats weren’t done padding their lead. John Wickman would give the Bobcats a 2-nothing lead at 4:04 of the second. 24 seconds after John Wickman scored, Nicholas Jensen scored at 4:28 of the second. Then Owatonnna’s offense came to life. Owatonna’s Dylan Porter would be the first Express player to foil David Bosner’s shut out. That would draw the Express to within two, at 3-1. Following the Porter goal, the Express seemed to get more jump in their step. They weren’t done finding the back of the net behind Bobcat goalie, David Bosner. The Bobcats would surrender another goal, this time to the Express’ Michael Palmiscno at 10:26, cutting what seemed an insurmountable 3-0 Bobcat lead to a tenuous 3-2 lead. The Express would not be outdone, getting the game tied at 3 on a goal by Cory Thorson at 11:52 of the second. That silenced a raucous VFW Sports Center and gave Owatonna fans who were in attendance a chance to get loud.

At 2:29 of the third, however, the energy that was lost by the Express scoring 3 goals was regained when Bismarck’s number twenty- four Isaiah Bennis put the raucous crowd back into the game. Then at 18:31, the Bobcats would widen the gap on a goal by number twelve, Kevin Harris 18:31 of the third. The last Bobcat goal of the night was scored at 19:41 by number nineteen, Jordan Singer, sending the Sports Center into pandemonium.

The National Championship banquet kicks off all the festivities on April 27, 2009 at 6:00 pm in Mason City, Iowa. Then the next game Bismarck plays is Tuesday, April 28 at 3:00 pm with Dvorak Motors pre- game show at 2:30 pm. You can listen as the Bobcats fight for the Robertson Cup on 1270 Super Talk with Skip Berry and John McClain.
