Bismarck, ND – The Bismarck Bobcats come off of their second consecutive sweep over the Aberdeen Wings, taking both games and boosting the Bobcats to 6-2. They are sitting in second, behind… surprise, the Austin Bruins. It’s no surprise to those of us who covered last years race for the Central Cup. Chris Tok has something to talk about. We had a chance to visit with the captain of the Bobcats, Aaron Nelson. So far the stats may be a little misleading. Don’t look at the stats. We know that #15 is not true. The stats lie to you. “Nelly is one of the best in the league,” according to Assistant Coach Garrett Roth. “Nelly can steal you a win at anytime,” stated the 2003 Borne Cup Champion Roth. “We know what Aaron can do. The stats will bare themselves out as the season goes along.” Nelly states that the win over Wenatchee was good for the team, along with the wins over Aberdeen. The next sequence of games is going to be kind of crazy for the ‘Cats. Coming off a weekend where the ‘Cats only have to prepare for one game, the next three are against the 0-7 Blizzard. But according to Coach Roth, “Zero-and-Seven doesn’t mean anything. Brookings is going to be hungry. I’ve begun breaking down video and preparing game plans according to what the film shows me of what Brookings’ weaknesses are.” To me the way the team is playing looks like the olden days when the Bulls used to be our Nemesis. Nelly laughed when I compared his team to Billings. Nelly stated “Oh great. Where is this going?” When I told him that he reminded me of former Bulls Goalie and former Bobcat goalie Jeremy High, Nelson began to laugh. Also, we visited with Assistant Captain Nate “The Ripper” Repensky. We talked about his teammates and what it was like in the Bismarck locker room. According to Repensky, Aaron and Filip are not quiet in the Bobcats locker room. It depends on the situation. “They are vocal,” according to Repensky, “Starzynski and Nelson do a good job at being leaders.” That’s why they wear the “C.” As far as the team’s plans for when they will leave for Brookings, they will leave early Friday morning. How will handle the majority of the trip? They will drive for about three hours, stop and have lunch, and then continue on their way towards Brookings for another three hours.
