Amundson Leaves Tribe

June 16, 2009 by jeremiahboyce · Leave a Comment

Mandan - It was a day that most Lady Braves fans thought would never come. Greg Amundson, who won 9 state titles with players such as Rebecca and Jessica Kielpinski, resigned as Girls Basketball Coach of the Braves on Monday afternoon. Amundson leaves behind a winning tradition at MHS. The reason for why he’s leaving is because he wants to be closer to his son. Amundson will blaze a new trail in Minnesota. A replacement has not yet been named for Amundson.

Mandan sent players to several different colleges with a winning attitude, which is a credit to Coach Amundson. The list of players include: Kayla Rogers (U-Mary), Rebecca Kielpinski (Alaska Anchorage), Jessica Kielpinski (New Mexico State). You will hear more from the players who knew what Greg Amundson was like, not only as a coach, but as a human being. JeremiahBoyce.com is in the process of tracking down several former players who wore the black and white under the leadership of Greg Amundson.

Bismarck - It was time for Jeremiah to be crowned champion, once again.  For the third time in 27 years, Jeremiah got to enjoy the thrill of victory.  This season was awfully special for me, personally.  As you will see later on in this story, pictures tell a thousand words.

Having the Coach of the Year meant so much to me, because I predicted earlier in the campaign that Byron Pool would be crowned Coach of the Year.  It came true.  Let’s give credit, where credit is due.  What else can you say about the NAHL’s Coach of the Year, Byron Pool, and his Assistant, Aaron Kinslow?  Kinslow came to Owner Brigl after Fargo’s Jr. A hockey team dispersed, and came to Bismarck as a present from former adversary Chad Johnson.  Only the best come from the school of Johnson.  Coach Kinslow is one of the more likable guys in the league, along with Coach Pool.  They have been more than accommodating to JeremiahBoyce.com.

Goalie David Bosner reminded me of Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils.  He could also be compared to Chris Mason of the Columbus Blue Jackets.  I will remember Bosner, because he was always a reliable goaltender.  On many nights he would make spectacular saves that would have Skip Berry saying “Bosner being Bosner.”

John Clark could be compared to Niklas Lidstrom of the Red Wings.

What can you say about this next gentleman, Cody Keefer?  He was just, to put plainly, a sniper.

It will be interesting to see Skip Berry’s color commentator, the “Big Mac” John McClean Jr. earn his way between the pipes as a starting goaltender in 2009-10.  We might be looking at the next David Bosner if McClean works really hard over the off-season.

In closing, I would like to tell people that I am going to put together a slide show with music to illustrate what the Bobcats’
accomplishments have meant to me.  Once you have the title and shirt, you never forget what each one of those young men meant to you.  Once you have their emails, you always stay in touch.  Stay tuned for all your Draft Day coverage as the Central Division Champs look to defend their title. To follow Bosner and Clark next year at the Air Force and Army, stay tuned to this very sight.

Bobcats Have Historic Season

May 1, 2009 by jeremiahboyce · Leave a Comment

43 wins is something that Byron and Aaron should be proud of.  Going to represent the Central Division is something that they should hold their heads high about.  The way they played against Owatonna in Game 5 is something that I will never forget.  Even though Bismarck has had tough luck at Nationals, they have nothing to be ashamed of.  We have a Coach of the Year and a Central Division Regular and Post- Season Trophy, which means that things are looking bright for recruiting.

‘Cats Begin Run at National Title

April 28, 2009 by jeremiahboyce · Leave a Comment

Mason City, Iowa - Coming off of a hard fought series against the Central Division’s Owatonna Express, the Bismarck Bobcats will shift their focus to Mahoning Valley.  These Bobcats are battle tested with veteran goalies in between the pipes for Coach of the Year Byron Pool.  As for today’s opponent, Mahoning Valley, whom the Bobcats lost to early in the season 5-1, but this is a new season.  There should be no excuse why Bismarck couldn’t cap off the turnaround from worst to first with a national title.  Every game that the Bobcats play, we will have your exclusive coverage right here.

Bobcats Derail Express

April 27, 2009 by jeremiahboyce · Leave a Comment

On Sunday night the Bismarck Bobcats had their backs against the wall, which meant one more loss and their dream season would come crashing down in pieces. The Bismarck Bobcats showed resiliency and heart by having the early jump. Before the Express knew what hit them, they were down 3-nothing. As has been the case all series long, the Owatonna Express would show that they have some snipers, hitting the Bobcats with three quick goals of their own. This was game five, neither team was going to give an inch. We were going to the final 20 minutes of the series tied, but then the Bobcats would explode. Here is your scoring recap from Sunday night’s game, game number five:

First to get on the board was Bismarck’s Casey Kleisinger at 7:54 of the first.

But the Bobcats weren’t done padding their lead. John Wickman would give the Bobcats a 2-nothing lead at 4:04 of the second. 24 seconds after John Wickman scored, Nicholas Jensen scored at 4:28 of the second. Then Owatonnna’s offense came to life. Owatonna’s Dylan Porter would be the first Express player to foil David Bosner’s shut out. That would draw the Express to within two, at 3-1. Following the Porter goal, the Express seemed to get more jump in their step. They weren’t done finding the back of the net behind Bobcat goalie, David Bosner. The Bobcats would surrender another goal, this time to the Express’ Michael Palmiscno at 10:26, cutting what seemed an insurmountable 3-0 Bobcat lead to a tenuous 3-2 lead. The Express would not be outdone, getting the game tied at 3 on a goal by Cory Thorson at 11:52 of the second. That silenced a raucous VFW Sports Center and gave Owatonna fans who were in attendance a chance to get loud.

At 2:29 of the third, however, the energy that was lost by the Express scoring 3 goals was regained when Bismarck’s number twenty- four Isaiah Bennis put the raucous crowd back into the game. Then at 18:31, the Bobcats would widen the gap on a goal by number twelve, Kevin Harris 18:31 of the third. The last Bobcat goal of the night was scored at 19:41 by number nineteen, Jordan Singer, sending the Sports Center into pandemonium.

The National Championship banquet kicks off all the festivities on April 27, 2009 at 6:00 pm in Mason City, Iowa. Then the next game Bismarck plays is Tuesday, April 28 at 3:00 pm with Dvorak Motors pre- game show at 2:30 pm. You can listen as the Bobcats fight for the Robertson Cup on 1270 Super Talk with Skip Berry and John McClain.
