On Saturday at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, it was time for Curtis Painter to begin his senior campaign with the BoilerMakers.  They were facing a familiar foe, to those of you who are former North Central Conference fans, the Northern Colorado Bears.  It didn’t take long for the Boilers to serve notice to Northern Colorado that they were in Big 10 country on their opening possession.  When senior Curtis Painter found Keith Smith for his first TD, Northern Colorado was down 7-0.  Kory Sheets then added more steam to the Boilers engine on a 9-yard scamper giving the BoilerMakers a 14-0 lead at the half.  In the second half, the Boilers began to roll when they showed their opponent what the Big 10 was all about.  The Northern Colorado carnage wasn’t done at halftime as the Boilers would score on a blocked punt giving them a commanding 21-0 lead.  On the very next Boiler opportunity, Painter used his arm strength to throw a 43-yard bomb to Greg Orton that had the crowd going crazy and the whistle going off.  Frank Halliburton blocked another Northern Colorado punt, and Mike Conway got into the act and scored a touchdown that gave the Boilers a 35-3 lead.

Final Score: Purdue – 42, Northern Colorado – 10.

Up next for the Boilers is a match-up with the top-ten ranked Oregon Ducks.  It will be another game at Ross-Ade, starting at 2:30 pm central time this Saturday.
