Bismarck, ND. For the second straight time this season, including last year’s National Championship over Fairbanks, the Bismarck Bobcats have burned a former teammate turned adversary. Garrett Roth was a member of Mr. Johnson’s Bourne Cup team. Now, he’s an assistant coach with Aberdeen, and on Thanksgiving, the Bobcats looked to stuff him like a turkey. Early in the game, Dan Zawacki whacked the Wings, giving the Bobcats an early 1-0 lead. But pesky Garrett Roth and the Wings refused to die early in the game, tying the game at 1-1. That would be the first of three ties. Brett Bower would power a shot by Aberdeen goalie Frederick Leisner, and would prove to be wiser than Leisner. Enter in Matty Ice, Matt Gates, to signal the defeat of Roth and the roasting of the Wings. He opened the gates for a Bobcats win by coming up the ice on a three on two in overtime, blasting a shot by Leisner, and sending the VFW into a Thanksgiving delight. Final score Bismarck 4, Garrett 3. The Bobcats are now 13-7-1 and in first place in the Central.
