Good afternoon sport fans. Here is a look at your Class A State Boys and Girls Basketball Tournament for the Bismarck Century Patriots to be held this weekend in Fargo.

First lets take a look at Darrin Mattern’s top ranked Bismarck Century Patriots boys team. I feel that they should be able to get to the championship game, but it will come with a possible challenge in the semi-finals against the Mandan Braves, a team that they know well. You know that Mandan will be ready for the red, white, and blue, especially after the last time they played in the regular season when Century won on a last second shot attempt in Mandan. Century enters the state tourney with a 22-2 record and currently on a 18 game winning streak. I expect Century to be led by seniors Kade Amundson and Josh Sipes with a little three point help from junior Treyton Mattern. Century comes into the tournament fresh off a convincing 71-29 West Region title game victory against the Jamestown Blue Jays.

Meanwhile, the Century girls team coached by Ron Metz comes in 23-1 and the top ranked team in the state and will play West Fargo Sheyenne in their first game and I also see them making it to the championship game, but they could also face a challenge in the semi-finals against the only team that beat them this year in the St. Mary’s Saints who are currently tied with Fargo Davies as the #2 ranked team in the state. Fargo Davies is in the bottom bracket and could be playing the Patriots in the championship game, or it could be the current 4th ranked team Mandan Braves. Century is led by 6’4′ sophomore Lauren Ware and sharp shooting junior guard Lilly Keplin. Century outscored their three opponents in the West Region Tournament by an average of 71-41 a game.

I feel that Century could be holding up two championship trophies by the end of Saturday night as the teams seem ready from their play the weekend before in the West Region Tournaments.

Go Patriots!
