How often do we see a member of the Fox broadcast team get (back) in a race car? It just so happens to be at a race track in my home state – a place where my father and I watched him win August 5th, 2001. Jeff Gordon, number 24, started the race in the 24th position. By the time it was over, he would find himself “kissing the bricks” in the yard of Jeremiah. (The reason I call it ‘my’ yard is because of the short, one hour trek from my home in West Lafayette, IN to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. They call it Speedway Indiana.)

But this time Gordon will be racing on behalf of former teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. is currently suffering from concussion-like symptoms which bother him still, and are causing loss of balance. At first he thought it was allergies, so they put him on medications to treat those symptoms without success. However, doctors discovered it was neurological; his brain was really injured. That was the reason for Dale Jr’s recent absence at New Hampshire. And that’s why Jeff Gordon will be racing at the “yard of Jeremiah” and at Pocono, Pennsylvania.
