Asked if the 24 team is a little let down by Jeff Gordon’s recent announcement that he is stepping away after the end of the season, your answer would be a resounding “no, sir!” The proof is in the pudding. I give you the facts, ladies and gentlemen. We have a whole year to enjoy Mr. Gordon, so why not start it out with a bang, which is what he did on Sunday afternoon by claiming the pole for the Great American Race, the Super Bowl of his sport. Alan Gustafson wanted him on the pole, so when you put Jeff’s drive and determination plus Gustafson’s ability to be nothing but an a-plus crew chief, then you’re looking at your pole sitter for the Daytona 500. I equate what Jeff is trying to do with Michael Jordan. He still has the drive to want to go out on top. So, look out Kevin and Keelan, your championship reign might be threatened by a driver named Super G. How appropriate that in his 23rd season, he can go out on top with championship number five. That is not to say that last year’s champion won’t be able to TKO the rest of the field, or that Six-Time won’t be able to make it seven, but everything seems to be pointing toward Super G. One race does not make a season, but if Sunday was any indication, look out NASCAR, because Super G is not to be messed with.
