On Saturday it was a test of will and heart between the three-time national champion NDSU Bison and the SDSU Jackrabbits. Familiarity can bring bad blood. That could be why the Fargodome was wound up when the Bison were going through some adversity and it looked like the NDSU reign was about to end. What would the six foot six junior Carson Wentz do to make his best impersonation of last year’s quarterback, Brock Jensen? What would we hear on the Bison Radio Network? Would we hear of a young junior quarterback bringing his herd into the semi-finals? Or would we hear the end of a dynasty? For a while it seemed like the Jackrabbits were going back to Vermillion with something to celebrate, that was until Carson did his magic. Carson, with thirty-seconds left, threw a touchdown pass to RJ Urzendowski which allowed the Bison to live another day. The final score was NDSU twenty-seven to twenty-four. In the words of, the voice of the Bison, Scott Miller. “My, oh my!” Here is what fans should keep an eye on. Key number one, Carson Wentz must have a clean pocket, and must not be nervous. He must be able to read the defense, and call the right play. Key number two, the Bison must be able to react without one of their leaders, Zach Vraa, who is out for the rest of the playoffs due to an injury he suffered in the win over the Jackrabbits this weekend. Someone else will have to play his role and step up big time, if the Herd wants to go to Frisco. The junior quarterback out of Bismarck Century High School is key to the Bison. He is a big part of the Bison’s offensive game plan, along with the Totino Grace High School product, John Crockett. Another key for the Bison is Ben LeCompte. He must take away field position from the Chanticleers by hitting them inside their own ten, and make them feel how loud the Fargodome can get!
