Jeremiahboyce.com was granted an opportunity to interview Purdue head football coach Darrell Hazell. The head coach for the Boilermakers is from Cinnamonson, New Jersey. He was a wide receiver when he played in college football. The first question that Hazell was asked was, “How do you handle the seniors when the team is struggling, and it is their last chance to put on a Boilermaker uniform?” Hazell replied that he is very proud of his seniors this year, and he has not had to motivate them. He feels like they have a great foundation for future years. There will be a ceremony honoring the senior players before the game this Saturday, in which Boiler fans will get a chance to say thank you to all their senior players before they go tackle the Wildcats.

Every football game is important, but The Old Oaken Bucket has special meaning, like how the Purdue win over IU means so much to the Lafayette community and to the athletic department. The players elect the captain shortly after fall camp. Coach Hazell trusts that the players know who their strong leaders are. When it comes to the baby Boilers, Darrel Hazell states he sees progress and thinks that they can grow to become the backbone of a strong team. His seniors are a special group of guys that coach Hazell is proud of. Darrell stated, “I think we need to finish strong with our 2015 recruiting class and continue to get Big Ten strong and Big Ten fast.”
