For several months after the announcement that Carl Edwards would not be returning to Roush Fenway, the driver finally was able to reveal where he will be in 2015. Edwards announced on Tuesday that he will join Joe Gibbs Racing to re-join Matt Kenseth along with Denny Hamlin and newly-added Carlos Contreras. Edwards’ departure will leave Greg Biffle as the number one driver at Roush Fenway racing.

Edwards has spent most of his career at Roush Fenway, but it’s very exciting to move on to Joe Gibbs racing. One of the classiest guys in NASCAR will run in the No. 19 car next year.

This is a definite touchdown for the former NFL coach after landing one of NASCAR’s biggest free agents. Joe Gibbs Racing should be a powerhouse next year and should be on NASCAR fans’ radars to win a championship – no matter what NASCAR decides to do with the format. For now, the 99 team can finally focus on winning a championship without having to wonder about their future.
