Champs’ Back Against the Wall

October 14, 2008 by jeremiahboyce

Bean Town (Boston) - For the Boston Red Sox, their captain, and their catcher, Jason Varitek, they had a perfect opportunity to snap the momentum away from the surprising Rays at one of the most venerable ball parks, Fenway Park.  The Tampa Bay Rays had other ideas as they tattooed Boston’s starter, Jon Lester, with four home runs.  In route to a 9-1 drubbing, which now has Boston 2 games away from elimination, has the Tampa Bay Rays on their possible way to an American League Title.  Former Minnesota Twin, Matt Garza, pitched 6+ innings of near shutout baseball, until Boston ruined the bid for a shutout with a line drive single (Jacoby Ellsbury) in the top of the 4th for Boston’s only run of the night.  Boston’s pitching starter will be knuckleballer, Tim Wakefield, and pitching for the Rays will be Andy Sonnanstine.
